Further grant help for businesses in Burnley and Padiham

This funding is in addition to the £24.5m that has been allocated for the Small Business Grants Fund and the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Fund.

The support is aimed at those small businesses who were not eligible to benefit from these funds.

It allows the council to award discretionary grant payments to other businesses based on local economic need.

The scheme is based on priorities set out by national Government, key sectors in the local economy and on the council’s knowledge of local businesses that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, but which have not been eligible for other schemes.

The previous grant schemes have allowed the council to support more than 2,000 businesses across the borough, and it is expected that just under a further 100 businesses could be eligible for this discretionary grant.

Coun. Gordon Birtwistle, the council’s executive member for economy and growth, said: “We will be using our knowledge of the local economy to target these discretionary grants to those small businesses that need it most in these extremely challenging times.”

The council is also still accepting applications from eligible businesses for the Small Business Grant Fund and Retail, Hospitality and Leisure schemes.
