The national Lockdown has led Colne Town Council to extend the Formal Consultation for its draft Neighbourhood Plan from seven weeks to more than 10 weeks.

Residents, businesses, and statutory consultees now have until 8th January to take a look at the plan and send their responses.

Chairman of the Neighbourhood Plan Working Group, Coun. Sarah Cockburn-Price, said: “We were planning physical meetings, on a socially distanced, one-to-one basis in the town hall.

"Suddenly, we had to cancel these sessions. We have been running Zoom sessions, open to all, on specific topics. In addition, everyone can read our draft Plan on our website. We just want to give everyone the opportunity to read our Plan, and, ideally, interact with us.”

The Colne Neighbourhood Plan, if passed in 2021, would have real planning weight. It seeks to both protect and enhance the town and there are six broad policy areas: Green Spaces, Heritage, Housing Allocations, Community Facilities, the Town Centre and Transport.

Coun. Mary Thomas, chairman of Colne Town Council, added: “This might not be everyone’s idea of a festive activity, but what could be a nicer gift at Christmas than to do something for your community, especially this year? We are asking everyone to spare just a few minutes of their time to respond to our Neighbourhood Plan that we’ve worked so hard on.

"You can download the form for this from the main Neighbourhood Plan page on our website.”
