Mrs Cooper's staff told the Burnley Express that she was safely locked in her office at Portcullis House, which sits opposite the Houses of Parliament.

A member of her staff said: "Westminster is in complete lockdown at the moment. Julie did not witness the attack but has texted to say her and her staff there are safe. It is a very fragmented picture at the moment."
