Briefing session for would-be Burnley councillors

Anyone interested in standing as a candidate or acting as an agent in borough council elections is being invited to attend a briefing session at Burnley Town Hall next week.

Voters will be asked to choose their local councillors when they go to the polls on May 7th. The Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner election will be held on the same day.

A briefing for prospective candidates and agents will be held at Burnley Town Hall on Thursday March 19th at 5-15pm.

The briefing will include information on what it means to be a borough councillor, duties and responsibilities, how to be nominated to stand in the elections and a guide to being an election candidate. Nomination information packs will be available to would-be candidates and agents. Anyone interested can simply turn up at the information session.

Nominations for the borough and PCC elections close at 4pm on April 8th. You must be 18 years or older and meet some other basic criteria to be able to stand as a candidate.

Alison Stirling, of the town hall elections office, said: “We’re encouraging anyone interested in standing as a candidate in the borough election to come along to this briefing session and find out more.”
