Police release CCTV images of security van robbery bid

POLICE are re-appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery on a security van at the Texaco garage in Blackburn Road, Haslingden, on February 8th.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. when a Loomis security van arrived at the garage and was approached by four men in a silver Vauxhall Astra. The men were armed with a sledgehammer or similar weapon and attacked the side of the van with the security guard inside.

The men also entered the shop where they tried to rob the second guard who managed to secure himself in a separate room. The offenders then fled.

Fortunately nobody was hurt during the incident and nothing was taken.

DI Nick Hodgeson said: “As the investigation progresses, there are some further points that have come to our attention that I would appeal for information about.

“Firstly, I am keen to speak to two men who were walking in the middle of Townsend Street immediately after the robbery. The men, one of whom was wearing a high visibility jacket, were walking in the middle of the road and were forced apart when a Silver Vauxhall Astra drove down that road between them.

“Secondly, a silver Vauxhall Astra was abandoned at the junction of South Shore Street and Charles Lane and a number of men, dressed in dark clothes were seen to get out of the car and run to a waiting BMW which was parked on the opposite side of the bollards.

“That car then drove away towards the industrial estate at the bottom of Charles Lane.

“I would also renew my appeal to anyone that may frequent the area, whether that be as they live or work in the area who may have witnessed any part of this incident or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area around 6 a.m. this morning or in the days leading up to the offence to contact police. “

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lancashire Police on 01282 425001 quoting log 0160 of February 8th or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
