Police probe after man tries to abduct schoolboy, 10

Police are appealing for the public's help to identify a man in connection with the attempted abduction of a child.

Police were called shortly before 9am yesterday (Monday) to reports that a man attempted to abduct a 10-year-old boy on Bailey Lane in Breightmet, Bolton, in some woodland very close to the junction with Red Lane.

The man grabbed his satchel and tried to pull it off his arm before trying to grab his arm.

At this time, a man walked along Red Lane with his two children, which appeared to distract the attacker, and this allowed the young boy to flee. The attacker ran off up Bailey Lane, towards Withins Lane.

The man is described as white with a tan, around 30-years-old and had a red mark under his eye. He was wearing a yellow top and black trousers.

Detective Inspector Charlotte Cadden of GMP’s Bolton borough, said: “The attacker has put this young boy through a terrifying ordeal.

“We have extra reassurance patrols in the area and are working closely with local schools during the school run to ensure the safety of the children.
