A quantity of Asian gold jewellery worth in excess of £10,000 and a set of diamond earrings worth £500 were also taken in the break-in.

Entry was gained by forcing a double glazed window after thieves had climbed onto the kitchen roof via the side of the house, police said.

Sgt Tim Hitchen said: “This is a high value burglary which has been committed in quite a narrow time period and in broad daylight.

“We have information that four or five males wearing dark clothing and with hoods up were seen in the area around the time of the burglary, but we have no more than that at this stage.
