Police hunt Burnley sex offender on run for a year

Detectives are re-appealing for the public’s help in tracing a wanted sex offender from Burnley.

Dilshad Miah (33) is still wanted by police after failing to notify the authorities of a change of address last year.

The force originally issued a wanted appeal for Miah in February 2014 but he is still outstanding and is believed to possibly be in the Manchester or London areas.

Miah was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in November 2013 and was given a 19-day suspended sentence and placed on the sex offenders’ register until December 2020.

He is described as short at around 5ft tall, of proportionate build with brown eyes and short dark hair.

Police are appealing for anybody with information about his current whereabouts to come forward.

DC Andrew Ashworth said: “Despite it being almost one year from our last appeal, we are still determined to find Miah and so I would strongly urge anyone who knows of his current or recent whereabouts to contact police.

“Sex offenders are managed in the community by police and partners, a system which aims to prevent them from committing further offences. If they do not comply with the obligations of their licence or notification requirements, we will take positive action to find them, as we are doing in this case.”
