Police Hallowe’en warning for Pendle Hill motorists

POLICE have issued a Hallowe’en warning to motorists travelling over Pendle Hill tonight.

A one-way traffic system has been put in place over the Nick o’ Pendle from 5pm this evening.

Hundreds of revellers flock to the area every year because of the links to the Pendle Witch Trials.

The 400th anniversary of the infmaous trials is expected to attract bumper crowds this year and police have been forced to impose safety measures.

Motorists are advised of the one-way system put in place for traffic travelling from the A59 to Sabden over the Nick o’ Pendle between 5pm and 3am.

Anyone heading for the Nick o’ Pendle via the A59 will be able to park in Sabden and walk up the hill.

Safety cones will be placed down the centre of the road forming two lanes, one for pedestrians and one for cars travelling from the A59.

Access to the Wellsprings Inn at the Nick o’ Pendle will be by ticket only.

Traffic coming into Sabden via Whalley Road from the direction of Whalley or Accrington will be able to exit the village via Padiham Road in the direction of Black or White Hill, or park their car and walk up to the Nick.

Traffic coming into Sabden via Black or White Hill from the direction of Padiham, Burnley, the M65, or M66, will be able to exit the village via Whalley Road, or park and walk up to the Nick.
