Police appeal for information after motorcyclist seriously injured in Hapton crash that saw road closed for five hours

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision in Hapton yesterday.

Police were called at around 11.15am to reports that a Yamaha motorbike that had been involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Combo van on Burnley Road.

The rider, a 41-year-old man from Accrington, was treated by paramedics at the scene and later taken to Royal Preston Hospital. He is being treated for a bleed on the brain, fractured ribs and internal injuries and is in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 61-year-old man from Rishton, was not injured. It was reported he left the scene before police arrived and following inquiries was later arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident. He has been released under investigation pending further inquiries.

The road was closed for more than five hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Sgt Chris Evans, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations, said: “An investigation is underway after a motorcyclist was left seriously injured following a collision in Hapton.

“We are keen to establish exactly what happened and would encourage any witnesses or anyone with dashboard mounted camera footage to contact us immediately.”
