Police appeal for help after Burnley arson attacks

POLICE are appealing for information following a spate of arson attacks in Burnley.

Firefighters were called to three separate arsons on Sunday, July 31st, and officers are urging anybody who knows anything about the incidents to come forward.

The first was reported at 1-54 a.m. in Wilton Street when a wheelie bin and loose rubbish in the rear yard of a house were set on fire.

The second came in at around 2-45 a.m. at a property in Queen Victoria Road where a fire had been started in an outbuilding of an empty property. Just 20 minutes later a third report was received of a further fire outside another empty property in Williams Road.

A 33-year-old man, from Burnley, was arrested in connection with the investigation but has been released on police bail pending further enquiries

A police spokesman said: “We would appeal to anyone who may have been in the areas above in the early hours of Sunday morning who may have seen any suspicious activity to come forward and contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone who may have any other information that may assist us in our enquiries to contact us.”
