Police appeal after man attacked by Stanley knife gang

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 28-year-old man was attacked with a Stanley knife after refusing a man a cigarette in Haslingden.

The incident happened around 4-30 p.m. on Thursday, September 8th, when the victim, from Whitworth, was walking down the back alley of Beaconsfield Street.

A group of four young men walked towards him and one member of the group asked for a cigarette. The victim refused and the man then attacked him from behind with a Stanley knife.

PC Faizal Mahmed from Rossendale Police said; “The victim received cuts to his head, face and body and although his injuries did not require hospital treatment, the attack was unprovoked and vicious.

“Fortunately the victim managed to defend himself and walk away from the attack. I’d urge any members of the public to contact Rossendale Police on 01282 425001 if they have any useful information which would lead the identity of the offender.”

The offender is described as Asian, aged around 19, of medium build, 5ft.10in. tall with short black hair.
