Police aim to cut number of bikers hurt on road this summer

The activity, which will start this month and run throughout the biking season, will see officers talking to riders to offer safety advice.

Road Policing Insp. Martin Bishop said: “It is timely to remind riders to take care as the biking season starts.

“During 2010 there were 46 fatalities on Lancashire’s roads and nine of these involved motorcycles. Many collisions involve other road users who haven’t seen the motorcyclist.

“Bikers need to make sure they are wearing the correct protective equipment when riding, even in the hot weather. Younger riders of motorbikes and mopeds are less likely to wear the full protection and we would urge people to consider their safety and protection.

“Other road users have a huge role to play too. They must make sure they are mindful of the increase in motorbikes on our roads at this time of year and take extra time to make their observations.”

The activity comes as part of Operation Pathway, a Force-wide campaign that sees high profile action days on the county’s roads aimed at saving lives and protecting people.
