Plans to convert two Burnley pubs into restaurants

A planning application has been submitted to Burnley Council to change the former White Hart Inn, in Church Street, into an Indian eatery, called Shimla Spice.

Under the proposals, submitted by applicant Mr Mahmood Akhtar, there would be a first-floor dining area and extension to the back, to make a larger reception and waiting area, with the restaurant opening between 5 p.m. and midnight seven days a week.

The plans will go before councillors on the council’s Development Control Committee on July 22nd.

Meanwhile, Burnley Football Club bosses are looking at the Sparrow Hawk Hotel, in Church Street, as a possible site to house students from the new football university courses at Turf Moor. But they said they were unable to comment further until a deal is reached.

A former Cliviger pub is set to become an Italian restaurant, after it was bought by the owner of Nino’s in Rawtenstall. Best known as the Fighting Cocks Inn, but more recently rebranded as the Ridoy, in Red Lees Road, it could be open by October if work is completed on time.
