A reunion to celebrate two of Burnley's most iconic nightclubs was a foot stomping success.

Hundreds of revellers, who used to dance the night away at the former Cat's Whiskers and Hop nightspots in the town, gathered to re-live the happy times.

While the former venues of the Cat's, which was located the the bottom of Centenary Way and the Hop, which was on Trafalgar, are long gone, the party atmosphere that epitomised both clubs was in full swing last Friday.

The event was organised in a matter of weeks after an appeal from Down Under from former Burnley nurse Debbie Heron.

Her plea for the get together to be arranged to coincide with her visit home from Australia attracted so much support in the Burnley Express and on social media DJs Chris Byrne, Steve Hindley, Pat Carter and Leigh Bickerstaff, who all used to work at both clubs, got their heads together to make it happen.

Chris said: "Everyone agreed it was the best night Burnley has seen for years.

"There was so much support for the event and what a great atmosphere there was on the night.

"Everyone was asking us to do it again so we are certainly considering it."

Also helping to spin the discs on the night was former DJ Andrew Pickles who flew in from his home in Australia for the party.

Held at Project nightclub in Hammerton Street, charity was the winner on the night as £1,200 was donated from ticket sales to Pendleside Hospice.
