PHOTOS: Stonyhurst Triathlon is a huge success

A NEW charity Triathlon in memory of the mother of event organiser Vanessa Hamlet proved a massive success last Sunday.

Held at Stonyhurst College, the event attracted more than 200 compeitors and, despite less than favourable conditions, spectators turned out in force too. It also raised around £2,000 for local charity Crossroads Ribble Valley.

Vanessa said: “My mum Audrey was a great inspiration to me and others and I wanted to share this with more people.”

Organised with the help of friend Diane Scott, the event served as a fitting tribute to Vanessa’s mother. Its success also owed much to the support of Stonyhurst college, along with the Rotary Clubs of Clitheroe, Ribblesdale and Clitheroe Lions, and a host of individual volunteers, plus the many sponsors and providers of prizes. Winners were presented with their awards at The Bayley Arms, at Hurst Green.

Results were: Male – 1 Stephen Schofield (Blackburn), 2 Marc Laithwaite (Upholland), 3 Steven Gregory (Trawden). First male veteran over 40 – Paul Guinan (Blackburn); over 50 – Ian Greenwood (Accrington); over 60 – Peter Jagan (Keighley).
