PHOTOS: Police seach woodland in hunt for murder victim’s grave

Convicted killer Shane Fitzpatrick (42) revealed after years of silence that he had buried the body in a shallow grave at Admiral’s Wood, a wooded gulley off Gisburn Road, Bolton-be-Bowland.

But today five days after the search began, the body had still not been located despite the intensive search by police officers led by a search specialist officer, with cadaver-sniffing dogs and help from forensic archaeologists and soldiers from an Engineers Regiment.

Mr Guilfoyle (37), a businessman with a criminal record for smuggling cigarettes and possessing forged banknotes, was battered to death outside his home in Royds Avenue, Acccrington, in May 2005.

Fitzpatrick, of Lyndale Road, Hapton, denied murder at Preston Crown Court in 2006 but was found guilty and jailed for life. The prosecution said he attacked Mr Guilfoyle in jealous rage because he had started a relationship with his ex-wife.

He never admitted his guilt but last week told police he wanted “to do the right thing” and help police find the body.

A police spokesman said today: “There have been no new developments. The search is continuing.”
