PHOTOS: Huge blaze rips through three rural Pendle homes

The fire broke out in a barn conversion in Barley and spread to two neighbouring properties at 8-30pm.

Around 50 firefighters were called out to tackle the blaze at Higher Laithe Farm in Barley Lane.

Flames were seen shooting through the roof of the family home but fire crews said all the occupants managed to flee the buildings.

Water was pumped out of a nearby reservoir by firefighters in a bid to stop the blaze spreading.

Fire crews battled through the night until 4am and managed to save one of the homes.

But the barn conversion was totally destroyed by fire and a second property was badly damaged in the blaze.

A spokesman from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “It was well alight when we got there. The middle house was on fire and flames were coming through the roof. You could see it for miles.

“They were three family houses. There were no people injured which was the saving grace. The fire spread pretty rapidly. We had to pump water up from the reservoir. The middle house has been severely damaged by fire. The roof has burned out.

“It was a real mess and there was a lot of damage.”

Investigations into the cause of the blaze are on-going.
