Photos: Girls enjoy a night out for hospice

More than 800 women turned up for a Girls’ Night Out to remember and look set to have raised thousands for Pendleside Hospice.

The Girls’ Night Out has replaced the midnight walk so that the women and girls walk in daylight but it took nothing away from this fun event which began and ended at Burnley Football Club.

Local people who live on the route came out of their houses to cheer the ladies on as they passed along the 10k route and it was a great atmosphere.

The route took them along Ighten Road from the bridge that crosses the M65, down Lakeland Way, Middlesex Avenue to Sycamore Avenue and Gannow Lane to the Gannow roundabout.

Hospice fund-raising manager Mrs Kaye Bartle said it had been a spectacular sight and really wonderful event.

The ladies really got into the spirit of the occasion on the balmy summer’s evening and the spectacular head gear and fancy dress gave it such a colourful feel that you could have been at a Brazilian carnival.

Many of the walkers had placards on their backs with emotional messages remembering loved ones to really bring home the message about the vital work of Pendleside Hospice.

Over the past four years the midnight walkers have raised more than £900,000 and it is hoped this year’s will be just as successful.

The walk ended with entertainment at Burnley Football Club where the bar was open and there was free pie and peas for all the walkers.
