Familiarity with the nooks and crannies of village life was put to the test on Sunday when hardy spirits in rain macs and umbrellas tramped the streets for a fund-raising treasure hunt.
The search for clues around Fence attracted families from the village and neighbouring Higham and Roughlee.
They were rewarded with hot food and drinks at the village hall and tried their luck on the tombola. There was also chance to view the results of a painting competition for children from the villages.
The treasure hunt winning team were the Higham Hikers, closely followed by Cathryn Haworth’s family, from Fence.
The treasure hunt was one of a series of events being organised to earn money for the upkeep of the hall which is used every day by groups in the village.
The small hard-working committee hopes to add to the coffers with a coffee morning on Saturday, June 13th, when a home-made cake stall will be among the attractions.
