PHOTOS: Burnley 10k a 'real credit to the town'

Hailed a big success by race organiser Run For All, Julie Ward, Asda Foundation Senior Manager, said the level of support offered to the event and the amount raised for so many good causes was a "real credit to the town".

First across the finish line was Gethin Jones in a time of 33mins exactly. Rob Webb took second place in 33mins 33secs with Danny Collinge third in 34mins 49secs.

Rachel Jacks was the first woman home in 40mins 46secs followed by Sarah Ridehalgh, who clocked 41mins 31secs for second spot and April Thorpe who finished third in 42mins 44secs.

Following a minute’s silence for the victims of the recent Manchester and London attacks, the run was started by internet sensation Dawn Nisbet and deputy Mayor of Burnley, Coun. Charlie Briggs – both of whom then joined the masses to take part.

Many of those taking part were raising money for a good cause of their own choice or for one of the event’s partner charities: Macmillan Cancer Support, Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Pendleside Hospice, Burnley Leisure Trust, Every Action Has Consequences, Burnley FC in the Community and Cancer Assessment Rapid Early Support.
