Young runner Harry is pride of Pendle after raising £1,500 for Burnley based charity that helps vulnerable families

A little runner with a big heart decided to use his favourite sport to help people in the community where he lives who may be struggling to cope during the pandemic..

Harry Driver (nine) initially set a target of raising £100 for the Burnley based Church on the Street ministry that is currently collecting food parcels to distribute to families who may need help across the area

Harry ran 5k every day for seven days and completed each run in less than 28 minutes and way surpassed his goal by raising a magniifcent total of £1,520.

Harry, who attends Barnoldswick C of E Primary School, is a member of Barlick Fell Runners along with his parents, Heather and Andrew, and little brother Toby who is five.

Heather said: "Harry just decided he wanted to do something to help so as he loves running we decided that a 5k a day challenge was attainable for him.

"He did his runs with me or his dad alongside on his bike and on the last run his fellow running club members lined the route to cheer him on and we joined him along with Toby on his bike."

The family set up a donation page and any cash contributions Harry used to do a 'big shop' at Aldi and delivered some food parcels around the Barnoldswick and Earby areas.

He also bought some toiletries for Cravenside Nursing Home as a gesture for residents whose relatives are unable to be with them at the moment due to the lockdown.

Heather, a nurse who ha been working on the frontline in ICU at Airedale General Hospital for the last six weeks, added: "We are so proud of Harry and what he has achieved especially as he has had to cope with me working full time also."
