The Manchester Road ambulance station was demolished in March last year and work began last month on the construction of the new commuter car park.

County Councillor Keith Iddon, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "The new car park will help improve transport links to and from Burnley and is an important part of the Burnley Pendle Hyndburn Growth Corridor Programme.

"The car park will create 67 new spaces for rail passengers, including the future provision for electric car charging points and additional disabled parking bays adjacent to the railway station."

The Burnley Pendle and Hyndburn Growth Corridor is a series of schemes to ease congestion and promote transport links and development in East Lancashire. The Manchester Road ambulance station project is the final scheme in the overall programme.

The demolition proposal was given the green light last year and new ambulance station was officially opened at Burnley General Teaching Hospital in March, 2019.

Lancashire County Council principal architect Nicholas Dale said: "The car park is funded by the 'Burnley Pendle Growth Corridor' initiative to improve the local railway station's infrastructure and is a key part of the Burnley Manchester Road Station masterplan providing a designated over flow car parking facility.

The development will see the existing pedestrian and vehicle access arrangement retained.

Extra covered cycle parking stands and the required number of mobility standard parking bays will be created within the existing station car because the Dent Row site is at a lower level.
