Glenn Beavers’ work as a welder has taken him all over the world.
But those adventures are as nothing compared to the work of his imagination.
Now at the age of 60 her is hoping for a late change of career - to full time children’s author with a mission to make readers “laugh, smile and giggle.”
With a flourish, just before Christmas, he published ten books on Amazon.
His dearest wish is for an agent to take him on so he can concentrate on penning yet more books designed to bring smiles to children’s faces and encourage their love of reading.
Glenn, who is currently working as a subcontractor for Leyland firm Elite Engineering ,said: “I’ve worked in the oil, gas and nuclear industry in the UK. I’ve worked in Holland and in Africa.”
Brought up in Fleetwood, Glenn, who lives in the Fylde, said he had little interest in reading at school, but a passion for books grew, starting in his 20s with books by sci fi and horror author Stephen King .
He said: “Now I read anything. I love autobiographies and biographies, stories where people have done things.”
He was prompted to begin writing stories himself after making tales up for his grandson, who is now 17. The first was inspired by his love of movies .
Later, for six years while working in Africa, he had time to further develop his writing skills, completing a draft for his book entitled Rasta Christmas and the Santa Corps .He has been heartened by messages from readers saying they had laughed all the way through a Beavers’ book.
Glenn stills reads his stories - now to his granddaughter aged six.
He said: “My whole goal is to do writing as a career - earning a living from it.That would be fantastic!”
