Top acts going through to quarter finals of Burnley's Got Talent to be announced tonight

The top acts who will be going forward to the quarter finals in the hugely successful Burnley's Got Talent will be announced live tonight.

Until then the 64 contestants face an agonising wait to see if they have made it through in the competition that has been supported by a host of celebrities.

The contest, one of the town's biggest events since the start of the Covid 19 lockdown, launched on Saturday night with thousands of people logging onto facebook to watch the videos of all the acts.

Originally only the top 20 were going through to the next round but there such an overwhelming response to the many different acts, including singers, dancers, magic acts and comedians, organisers decided to let double that amount go through.

Voting closes at 8pm on the facebook page Burnley's Got Talent and those with the most 'likes' will go through tonight at 9pm. The semi final will feature the top 10 in the third round and the top five in the final.

And, along with £200 prize money donated by competition organisers, the winner will also get the chance to perform at Burnley Live music festival later this year.

And, with an amazing 10,000 members of the facebook group and £3,189 raised for the NHS, the event is already a runaway success.

The idea of best pals Shelly Heap and Justine Lorriman, the duo set up a group on facebook, never anticipating the amazing response they would receive. They asked contestants to pay £5 to enter and for donations from people watching the acts and also anyone else who wished to support the cause.

Video messages asking people to support the contest and donate to the fund for the East Lancashire Health Trust have been sent from Burnley's cricketing legend James Anderson, Burnley player Nick Pope and Alastair Campbell, a well known Clarets fan and former press secretary to Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Legendary DJ Judge Jules, former Burnley FC player Andy Payton England women's footballer Rachel Brown-Finnis, Lancashire and England cricketer Alex Hartley and Celebrity Big Brother star Keiran Lee, who lives in Burnley, have also backed the competition.
