Thousands of free Easter eggs delivered to delighted kids across Ribble Valley

Ribble Valley Borough Council hatched a plan to lift community spirits during Easter by dishing out 2,000 free chocolate eggs donated by manufacturers.

Council staff joined forces with service groups and community volunteers to distribute the eggs to the children of key workers in schools and nurseries, as well as parish councils, for onward distribution to families in lockdown, vulnerable and isolated households, and residents in sheltered accommodation.

Ribble Valley Mayor Stella Brunskill said: “As well as the ongoing work of our community hubs, we thought it was important to spread some Easter cheer and were delighted to distribute these free chocolate eggs to local youngsters. Ribble Valley can and will get through this outbreak and once again I find myself praising council staff and community volunteers for literally going the extra mile for some of our most vulnerable residents.”

Ribble Valley Borough Council has launched a "community hub" to help vulnerable households during the outbreak. The council is working with community groups, businesses and the voluntary sector to provide help with everyday needs, such as obtaining food parcels, shopping and collecting prescriptions, housing, financial and debt advice, and loneliness.
