While the rest of us may have piled on a few pounds while snacking at home the six members of Slimming World have shed an incredible 13 stone between them.

Amanda Wilson, Chris Osborne, Shirley Hanson, Ailsa Brown, Amelia Dew and a sixth member who does not wish to be named, were attending Slimming World classes at either Turf Moor or St Cuthbert's community hall.

Covid 19 forced classes out of their venues and members were invited to sign in at virtual sessions through Zoom, hosted by consultant Caroline Griffths.

Caroline said: "So much has changed in the last few months but the determination and motivation of our six members has remained the same.

"They have done brilliantly and we are in awe of them, they are a real inspiration to the groups."

So what are the super six's tips for sticking to their diets during a particularly challenging time?

For Shirley the simplicity of Slimming World recipes, which meant she could enjoy a hearty home cooked meals with her family was the key, along with the support of consultants and fellow members.

Chris described the support of the group as 'practical and encouraging' and said that following Slimming World's food optimising plan, which is based on the science of satiety and energy density, he could tuck into generous portions of healthy food like lean meat, pasta, rice, eggs, potatoes, fruit and vegetables so he didn't go hungry.

Increasing their activity helped Amelia and Ailsa hit their targets. For Amelia it was gardening and Ailsa has become a keen walker.
