Teen magician from Clitheroe makes it through to semi-finals of BGT

The Ribblesdale High School pupil is among the top 40 acts performing in the semi finals of the popular ITV reality show after he amazed judges with his cracking magic trick.

As viewers will remember, Jasper, who is also a former pupil of Briercliffe Primary School, Burnley and has a younger sister Izzy (8), began his act by taking a red hanky and pushing it into his fist, before opening his hand to reveal he had turned it into an egg.

As he pointed to a hole in the back of the egg he let the audience into a little secret as he told them: ‘That’s where I’ve hidden another handkerchief.’ Although it turned out that the teenager had tricked everyone because, the hole in the egg, wasn’t actually a hole and the handkerchief wasn’t even inside the egg!

Britain's Got Talent returned to screens on Sunday evening months after the coronavirus pandemic forced production to be put on hold. The show was back with a pre-recorded installment where the judges faced the difficult task of cutting down this year's crop of talented contestants to just 40.

They will join the five gold buzzer acts who had a guaranteed spot in the semi-finals already.

The show will continue through September and October and will follow the finalists as they're whittled down, show by show.

It was previously announced that Diversity star Ashley Banjo will take Simon Cowell’s place on the judging panel for the semi-finals while the music mogul recovers from back surgery.

Ashley will join regular judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams on the panel.

The semi-finals will begin to air weekly on Saturdays at 8pm, beginning on September 5th. Some acts will take part via videolink whilst others will perform in the TV studio without a live audience.

The final will air in October with the winner taking home £250,000, plus a slot at the Royal Variety Performance.
