Support centre delivers hundreds of free meals to vulnerable Burnley people – along with one very special birthday cake

Charter House Resource Centre usually provides day care for those with learning or physical disabilities, the elderly, people with dementia, and people with complex care needs.

The centre has now supplied 758 free meals to those in need across the town, and even dropped off a cake for Albert Stevenson, who celebrated his 80th birthday yesterday.

"We couldn't let Albert's birthday pass without celebrating," said managing director Jason Smith. "He is one of our regualr day care users. We also recently delivered meals to a married couple aged 100 and 97 years old.

"Through our staff team and the help of our fantastic drivers we now deliver meals to vulnerable people's doorsteps. Sometimes the people that we support don’t see another person, only us for days.

"We have received messages from all over the country from people asking if we can check on their elderly parents as they are worried sick. we even received an order from Canada for a meal for isolated parents in Burnley.

"The people we deliver to are so very grateful.

"We are designated as key workers from Lancashire County Council, and always demonstrate personal distancing even when delivering meals, food or supplies."
