Ribblesdale Rotarians fill shoeboxes for vulnerable families forced to flee from all they have after domestic abuse

Members of Ribblesdale Rotary have been busy packing essential items into shoe boxes to hep victims who have fled domestic abuse.

They donated dozens of boxes, packed with toiletries, soft toys, and other welcoming little gifts to HARV - Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Domestic Violence Team.

Commenting on the initiative, Rotarian Sue Hind, from Clitheroe, said: "Incidents of domestic abuse have risen to an all time high and often women and children flee their homes with no more than the clothes they are wearing.

"Ribblesdale Rotarians have been filling empty shoe boxes with toiletries, soft toys, and other welcoming little gifts to show these ladies and their offsprings that somebody cares. I think it's been a successful charity project for individual members in lockdown because to fill a shoe box isn't a big ask.

"Still more are coming in, not just from our own members, but members of the community too which is fantastic. I think we can all imagine what it must be like to be in that position and being Rotarians, we all just want to help those who need it."
