Quintin marking Battle of Britain anniversary with Hurricane 80K Challenge

Ten-year-old Quintin Reid, whose late great grandfather flew the Vulcan in the RAF for the Dambuster 617 Squadron, is taking part in the Hurricane 80K Challenge.

The challenge involves walking, running, jogging, swimming or cycling 80k in 80 days to commemorate the famous aerial defensive campaign of 1940 in which the RAF defeated the Nazi Luftwaffe.

Proud dad Darren Fuller from Higher Reedley said: "He wanted to do this as his great grandad died last year. He was looking forward to doing this before all this COVID-19 started.

"He wants to raise as much money as he can but with times hard at the moment it’s tricky. He had to cancel his birthday and a tour around his favourite football club Everton. But despite this crisis he still really wants to complete this massive challenge.

"He has completed 34k so far and needs to complete 80k (50 miles) before July 10th. He wants to raise as much as possible to help keep the RAF museum going for everyone to enjoy.

"Quintin has also had loads of extra support from the RAF and Armed Forces' judo teams as he does a lot of the sport at Burnley Judo Club. Also, a very kind member of the RAF judo team and retired squadron leader, sent him some tee-shirts and jackets so he can wear while doing the challenge."
