The news comes as increasing numbers of people across the country have been making their way to local beauty spots and places of interest in recent days as lockdown restrictions have been eased.

Pendle Council leader Coun. Mohammed Iqbal explained: “It’s our duty to protect everyone who visits our tourist attractions.

The popular sculpture trail, which starts just outside the village of Barley, includes a range of sculptures which help tell the true story of the Pendle Witches.

It was first launched in 2012 for the 400th anniversary of the Pendle Witches of 1612.

Dean Langton, council chief executive, added: “Hundreds of people flock to Barley to climb Pendle Hill or visit the sculpture trail, especially when it’s good weather. The trail is currently closed but we’ll continue to review the situation as lockdown eases.

“Please do not come to Barley if your intention is to visit The Pendle Sculpture Trail.”
