Popular Wetherspoon's bar in Burnley town centre will re-open this Saturday

The town centre watering hole is one of 750 pubs the Wetherspoon's chain is preparing to open this weekend.

It will have the same trading hours as before, 8am to midnight seven days a week, and coronavirus measures will be in place.

The doors of the The Wallace Hartley in Colne, another pub that belongs to the chain, will also re-open on Saturday.

Confusion arose after it was reported that Wetherspoon's had decided to close the Brun Lea in Manchester Road.

But the chain no longer has any connection to the pub after it was placed on the market last year and sold to a consortium of business people.

Wetherspoon's announced all its pubs would be re-opening after the Prime Minister gave the green light for bars to start trading from from July 4th.

Boris Johnson said establishments will also have to keep record of their customers and Wetherspoon's said it will be bringing in stringent safety measures to stop the spread of Covid 19.

These include a reduced menu, sneeze screens and separate entrances and exits. The company says it has spent £11M getting the hostelries ready.

Wetherspoon's customers will use one entrance with a separate exit door where possible when they reopen.

Entry and exit will be marked out by floor stickers and/or barriers and door security will monitor the numbers entering and leaving to prevent overcrowding.

All of its pubs will have screens at the tills and there will also be screens to create seating areas where it is not possible to separate the tables by two metres.

Wetherspoon staff will get gloves, masks and protective eyewear, but it is not mandatory for them to wear them unless the Government says so. Employees will also have their temperatures taken on arrival for their shifts.

Workers will hand over all drinks holding the base of the glass and when ordered by the app they will be delivered to the table on a tray. Each pub will have at least 10 or more hand santiser stations and customers should use them on arrival and multiple times during their visit.

One member of staff will be dedicated to sanitising surfaces.
