The warning has been issued by Ribble Valley Police after reports that people are dropping their dogs off at grooming salons.

In a Facebook post, officers have said that grooming can take place if the business provides a collect and drop-off service whilst adhering to guidelines - but not the other way round.

A police spokesman said: "As lockdown continues, the pooches of the Ribble Valley are certainly getting shaggier. However, we are receiving reports that people are dropping their dogs off at grooming salons before collecting. This is unlikely to be considered as essential travel if you are stopped. Advice from the Canine and Feline Sector Group states that groomers can provide a collect and drop-off service with stringent disinfection of vehicles/premises between cuts. Similarly, with mobile groomers adhering to social distancing/disinfection.

Advice is being passed to groomers by our friends at Environmental Health."
