Sgt Chris Evans, of the Lancashire Police TacOps team, said: “First and foremost we send our condolences to the man’s family. Our thoughts are very much with them at this difficult time.

“Although we do not believe there is anything suspicious about his death, and we are not looking for anybody else in connection with it, we are very much appealing for information about the incident.

"Perhaps you saw the man in the moments before he died, or maybe you have dashcam footage showing what happened. Whatever information you have, we would urge you to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anybody with information is asked to get in touch on 101, quoting log number 724 of September 5th.
