Obituary: Family pay tribute to "super dad" Burnley reverend

Reverend Kenneth Tattersall, who was born in Burnley and grew up in the town, died on the 10th February in Bristol, where he was serving as associate pastor at Fishponds Baptist Church, having previously been at the Aenon Baptist Church - which closed in 1987 - Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Hammerton Street, and Carey Baptist Church in Preston.

A beloved husband, father, pastor, and friend, Ken became a minister in his late 30s, having been converted after seeing Billy Graham - an American evangelist preacher whose death just 11 days after Ken's passing made international headlines - at a rally, trading in his job as an engineer in Burnley to become a member of the clergy.

"He felt called into the ministry, so he was converted at Aenon Baptist Church where he later became minister: he did every role in the church there," said Ken's son, Wesley. "He's got a lot of old friends up in Burnley, and there's been a big outpouring of love towards him, even down here [in Bristol].

"So many people have contacted me to express how he's affected them through his ministry, it's been lovely," he added. "It's a step up from fondness; he was involved in so many people's lives."

As well as Wes, the owner of a logistics business in the South West, Ken is survived by his wife, Muriel, who was also born and raised in Burnley, where the couple lived for the first 40 years of their life.

"We were all quite close, me, mum, and dad," Wes added. "He was such a family man, and he's left a real legacy of love: me and mum were his biggest fans. He was a super dad.

"He helped out at a lot of churches in Bristol, doing preaching and itinerant ministry," said Wes of his father's time in the South West. "He was quite funny from the pulpit, and friends have said they'll miss his humour.

"People loved to hear him preach; he was exceptionally passionate," Wes added.

Ken's funeral will take place at Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church in Bristol on the 12th of March at 11am.
