Nationwide Burnley fans come together to form Clarets Against Racism group

The group of 11 strangers came across each on Twitter following the fall-out from the flying of a "White Lives Matter Burnley" banner over the Etihad Stadium, shortly after Burnley and Manchester City players took the knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

A spokesman for the group said: "As a group of strangers from all over the country, we came across each other on Twitter whilst expressing our frustration and upset at the events at the Etihad.

"We decided enough was enough and that that small minority do not represent us. Inspired by the extremely powerful post-match interview by Burnley captain Ben Mee, this group of fans quickly came together to form a response to what had happened.

"We decided to push ahead and form a group chat and see if there was something or anything that we could do to really show that Burnley is behind the Black Lives Matter Movement.

"Within the day, we came up with an idea, contacted the club, made a plan and made a montage to be played on the big screen at the Turf before the game against Watford on Thursday.

“Whilst we can’t be on the Turf in person, it doesn’t mean our voices can’t be heard. We really hope that this visual representation of our unity will show the world that those people do not speak for us.”
