Lockdown artists showcase their creations at popular Clitheroe gallery

Residents unleashed their creativity during lockdown in response to nine themes set by Ribble Valley Borough Council’s arts development team.

Over 140 pieces from the project, called Isolation Art, were posted on the council’s arts development Facebook page and have now gone on show at the gallery.

Katherine Rodgers, the council’s arts development officer, said: “We wanted to shine a light on the fabulous artistic talent in our borough during lockdown, as well as encourage beginners to try their hand at something new.

“We received over 140 submissions, including paintings, photography, poetry and print, and were astounded at the quality, depth and breadth of work.

“Now residents can see how creativity has united people and supported their mental health during the difficult recent months.

“I would particularly like to thank Sabden artist Dorothy Moore, who came up with the idea for Isolation Art and contributed some fantastic work to the project.”

A one-way system now operates at the Station Road gallery, with entry via the side door and exit via the main entrance. Visitors are asked to hand sanitise when entering the building and wear a mask.

The gallery now closes at 4-30pm Monday to Friday, 4pm on Saturdays and does not open on Sundays, to allow for extra cleaning.
