Inspirational Clitheroe boy (12) walks 41 miles for hospice in memory of his beloved 'Granpa'

Dylan (12), a pupil of Ribblesdale High School, donned his walking boots and put his best foot forward to walk an impressive 41 miles in a day with his dad, Lee, around the Ribble Valley in aid of the East Lancashire Hospice.

While his younger sister, Melody (8), who attends Edisford Primary School, followed in her brother's charitable footsteps by successfully completing a mini triathlon. She ran for one mile, cycled for two miles and swam for 200 meters.

The duo have so far raised £825 of their £1,000 fundraising target.

Dylan took part to thank the hospice for their care of his granddad, Barry Webb, who died in 2014 with cancer aged 64.

This is not the first time Dylan has undertaken physical challenges for the hospice, as last year he walked over Ribble Way and in 2017 he took part in an open water swim to raise more cash to support the hospice.

Speaking of their latest challenge, proud parents Nicola and Lee, said: "It's very hard to put into words how proud Lee and myself feel, but we are amazed at the resilience of Dylan and how he overcame pain, tiredness and the heat to complete an epic task.

"He has proved that he has incredible willpower and when he sets his mind to do something nothing will stop him and Melody has proved that she too can out do herself! She had quite a few wobbles in her abilities when doing some training, but on the day she pushed herself and did more than she had set out to do.

"We are literally the proudest parents not only for what they have achieved, but that they have done it in memory of their beloved Granpa and raised over £800 for The East Lancs Hospice and even more impressively they have now raised over £2,000 for the hospice over the last three years. When you consider their young ages, this is truly inspiring."

She added: "I would like to thank everyone who has supported Dylan and Melody, especially Hoody Marvelous in Clitheroe for kindly donating the T-shirts and hoodies for the challenges."
