The Burnley FC in the Community foodbank, which is operating under the Burnley Together community hub banner, has delivered a total of 1,588 food parcels since the country was placed under lockdown on March 23rd.

These parcels have helped feed 3,562 people, 1,116 of whom have been children.

The demand for the service has increased to an unprecedented level, with many people finding themselves requiring the support of the foodbank for the first time.

One young mother from Burnley, who has required the service for her three children, recently wrote a handwritten letter to thank Burnley FC in the Community and all the partner organisations working together to provide the service and the members of the public who have donated food.

She said: “We would like to say a huge thank you. We absolutely could not believe the amount of food you kindly gave and delivered. We also received home cooked meals – we especially liked the curry and sponge and custard.

“You have helped us out so, so much. You’ve helped us out financially and put a lot of stress to the side.

“Thank you, you all help people, risking your own health. You also made me feel very comfortable ringing for help.

“We would also like to say a massive thank you to all that kindly donated food to you.”

In another case, one woman called the foodbank to ask for support for her elderly parents who were isolating.

Ordinarily, she would provide food and meals for them but lockdown had restricted her access and rendered her unable to work.

Both her parents struggle with their mobility and cannot stand long enough to make themselves a meal. She has been standing at their window, trying to encourage them to eat.

Thanks to the catering department at Burnley FC and Daisy Communications, who have both been providing the foodbank with ready to eat meals, the elderly couple are now receiving pre-cooked meals as part of their food parcels.

Burnley Together is asking members of the public to carry on helping the service by either making a cash donation at justgiving.com/campaign/supportburnleyfoodbank or a food donation at one of the local drop-off points that can be found listed on the Burnley FC in the Community website.
