Free parking for shoppers in Clitheroe

The free parking is on offer until further notice at Ribble Valley Borough Council’s short-stay town centre car parks.

Changes to the centre of Clitheroe outlined in the #LoveRibbleValley campaign have also been tweaked after feedback from residents and traders.

#LoveRibbleValley aims to let shoppers know that the borough is open for business and Covid-secure. It includes the temporary pedestrianisation of Castle Street in Clitheroe, a partial one-way system in Berry Lane, Longridge; #LoveRibbleValley public safety signage and bollard sleeves in town centres, and "reverse graffiti" reminding people to "keep their distance" and "be kind and respect others" sprayed on pavements.

And after feedback from residents and traders, a disabled parking bay has been reopened at the top of Moor Lane in Clitheroe and the bus stop in Market Place reinstated.

Now, shoppers are to receive a further boost with two hours free parking at the council’s short-stay car parks.

Ribble Valley Borough Council leader, Stephen Atkinson, said: “We have some of the best independent shops in Lancashire and the message is clear – we are pleased to reopen, but are doing so safely, by creating pedestrianised areas during the main shopping hours to widen footways and enable social distancing.

“There has been a lot of positive and constructive feedback to #LoveRibbleValley and we have taken much of it on board.

“Retailers requested the free parking to help them recover from the lockdown and we were delighted to help.

“#LoveRibbleValley is a work in progress, so please keep telling us your views – together, we can recover.”

Castle Street in Clitheroe is pedestrianised from 10am to 5pm every day, there is a one-way pedestrian route in Moor Lane and directional arrows for shoppers entering and exiting the Swan Courtyard and Church Walk.

In Longridge there is a partial one-way system for traffic in Berry Lane between the junctions of Calder Avenue and Derby Street.
