The family of devoted Clitheroe mum, wife and grandma, Susan Wilson, are preparing to raise £20,000 towards funding for the pioneering treatment in Germany, which costs £48,000 in total.

Susan, who is 59 in April, is preparing to start chemotherapy and, if it is successful and she is strong enough, she will prepare to fly to Germany for the operation.

Susan's daughter, Nicola Preston said: "We want to try everything possible for my mum who is just the most caring and wonderful person who will do anything for anyone.

"We hope this will happen and she is strong enough to go. Her only dream is to watch her grandchildren grow up and go on a campervan holiday with her family to see some of the UK.

"We are hoping to do this for her birthday in April if she is strong enough."

Susan fell ill just before Christmas and a CT scan revealed a tumour in her pancreas. Doctors inserted a stent to help a blockage that one of the tumours was causing.

Three more biopsies were performed and more tumours were found, two in the pancreas and one in the liver.

Doctors then had to break the devastating news that they could not operate.

Nicola said: "Our world just fell apart."

In a tragic twist of fate Susan lost her own mum to the same disease six years ago when she was 75.

Since then Susan has cared for her 87-year-old father who has cancer. Susan has also had to cope with seeing her husband, David diagnosed with dementia at the age of 52. He turned 60 this year and the family haven’t bee been able to see him for 13 months due to Covid-19.

Nicola added: "My mum has just got on with things as best she can, she won’t give up hope."

The Wilsons moved from their native Burnley 26 years ago to take over the running of Barrow Post Office.

David previously worked at Park Hill computer centre in Padiham Road and Susan spent several years working as a dinner lady at St Mary Magdalene's RC Primary School, whilst focusing on her three children.

Susan is also mum to Bruce Wilson and Jayne Strong and grandma to Hallé and Ralph Preston and McKenzie, Kole, Albie and Bobby Strong.

Nicola’s husband, Ross Preston said: “Susan has always been there for us and I will do anything to help such a caring person."
