Parents were informed this morning and the school will make a decision about who will have to self isolate for up to two weeks when it is established who has been in contact with the pupils concerned.

One parent of a year 11 student said: "This is a worrying time for all students but particularly year 11s who have GCSEs to concentrate on.

"There are also concerns about children's mental health and well being having to isolate again after being away from school and their friends for so long already."

In a statement on the school's website headteacher Mr Richard Varey said: "This morning we have had two confirmed cases of Covid 19 in the Year 11 year group.

"As a precautionary measure we are sending the whole of the Year 11 year group home to self-isolate. Over the rest of today, we will be identifying pupils who have come into close contact with these two children. It may be that we are able to invite pupils who have had no contact with them back into school shortly.

"We ask at this stage that all pupils self-isolate and details of return dates will follow.

"Work for children at home will be set on Show my Homework following their normal timetable for the day. It is imperative that pupils check Show my Homework regularly and complete the work that is set.

"You do not need to get your child tested unless they show symptoms. There is no need for anyone else in the house hold to self-isolate unless your child displays symptoms."

Last week a number of year nine pupils from the school in Ormerod Road were sent home and told to self isolate until this week after one positive case of coronavirus in that year group.
