Buy Nothing New Day, held today, aims to raise awareness of consumerism and encourage customers to shop more ethically, using their spending power to have a positive impact.

Emmaus sells a wide-range of good-quality pre-loved items, including furniture, vintage items, bric-a-brac and clothing.

While its shops are closed through lockdown until December 2nd, the charity is selling items on their online store at www.emmausdeptstore.co.uk.

The funds generated from selling donated items helps Emmaus to provide a home, meaningful work, daily support and funded training for people who have experienced homelessness or social exclusion.

Stephen Buchanan, community director at Emmaus Burnley, said: “The days of throw away are numbered and we need to support the planet and look after our environment.

"Purchasing re-use not only supports this cause but your money spent with us allows Emmaus to provide accommodation, support and training to formerly homeless people and make a difference to our community.”
