Devoted couple celebrate amazing 71 years together

Jack and Dorothy Harrison, both 91 years young, met at the Majestic Ballroom in Barnoldswick 71 years ago when they were both 16.

Jack was working as a projectionist at the cinema next to the ballroom when he popped into the ballroom while a reel was running and ran into Dorothy. Their beautiful relationship had begun.

Today the Harrison family has grown with three daughters, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Jack and Dorothy’s secret is to never have a cross word and share with each other all your likes, such as their love of the great outdoors.

Family and friends sent gifts and cards and the staff at Sherwood Lodge in Fulwood where they now reside sang and celebrated the occasion in wonderful style.

Jack and Dorothy were presented with gifts, bubbly and a beautiful cake made by the chef. Fellow residents congratulated the happy couple throughout the day, it was a wonderful uplifting occasion for all at Sherwood Lodge, not least Jack and Dorothy themselves.

General manager Charlene Porter at Sherwood Lodge said: “We have had such a lovely day celebrating Jack and Dorothy’s anniversary. It’s so wonderful to see two people still very much in love after all these years."
