Crews extinguish blaze at derelict building in Burnley

Firefighters were able to pinpoint the exact location of a fire at a derelict building in Burnley thanks to a new app.

Crews from Burnley, Nelson and Hyndburn were called out just after 2pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday) to put out the blaze at the building in Healey Wood Road.

They used the What3WordsApp - which means no matter where a caller is - help can be sent to that precise location.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "Three fire engines from Burnley, Nelson and Hyndburn attended reports of a building fire at a derelict premises on Healey Wood Road, Burnley.

"Firefighters used one hose reel jet and a light portable pump to extinguish the fire. The what three words app was used to locate the fire. Firefighters were at the scene for three hours and fifteen minutes."
