Cordon lifted after grenade found in Burnley canal

A police cordon around Lowerhouse Lane has been lifted after a grenade was found by a magnet fisherman.

Specialist officers from the bomb squad were called to the scene just after 11-45am today.

Road blocks were in place from Lockyer Avenue to Gannow Lane. Members of the public were advised to avoid the area.

A spokesman from Burnley and Padiham Police has confirmed the road is now open and the grenade "dealt with".

"The grenade found off Lowerhouse Lane has now been dealt with by our friends from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and the cordon lifted.

"Thanks to everyone for their co-operation and patience and wishing you all a happy and a safe weekend."
