Charis Deighton stars in a scene alongside Joel Fry (of Games of Thrones) in Bank of Dave. The feel-good drama based on the life of Burnley businessman David Fishwick follows his journey as he takes on London’s elite to set up a bank and help local people.

Charis, a member of Burnley Garrick Theatre Group, plays a local woman who helps Joel’s character, Hugh, pick up items after he drops them on the floor.

Talking about her role, she said: “I love the fact that the film is Northern. It was an honour to be part of it. It was amazing.

"It shows Burnley in a good light. The town does get a bad reputation every so often but the film is a great representation of how people up North are nice. Some people in London won’t pick something up for someone but it’s just a thing people up North do to help others. We do that: we help people when we can. I couldn’t live anywhere else but the North.”

After a production company contacted Burnley Garrick appealing for actors to appear in the film, Charis sent them a tape of herself and secured the part, meeting both leading men, Joel Fry and Rory Kinnear, of The Imitation Game, during filming.

"It’s a very short scene but I was in costume and makeup for a couple of hours so it took maybe an hour to film."

Commenting on the support she received from her family and friends, she added: “They’re all proud. I had a lot of messages from people saying the film is heart-warming. I’m very proud.

"People need to watch it. It’s a great feel-good film.

Apart from her movie stint, Charis most recently played Linda Croxley in the Garrick’s production of Our Day Out, but for now, she’s concentrating on her university degree.

“I don’t know what’s next for me at the minute. I’m back at university studying policing at UCLan so I’m just trying to focus on that.”
