Owing to the stringent restrictions still currently applicable in Pendle, Colne Town Council has consulted with surrounding councils and the decision has been made to host Remembrance entirely online for the first time ever.

Coun. Mary Thomas said: "The absence of a physical event, of course, will disappoint many, but our online event will enable Colners from around the world to feel part of Colne’s Remembrance Sunday for the first time, no matter where they are.

"Our virtual commemoration will remain online for those who cannot join us at the appointed time too."

Naomi Crewe, Town Clerk, said: "In this year of coronavirus, safety has to be at the forefront of all our events. Earlier in the year we were hoping to host a town-wide VE Day celebration and sadly that could not take place, so there is some comfort that our online commemoration will still honour those who sacrificed their lives in both world wars.’

Colne’s pre-recorded Commemoration will be online from 10-50am on Remembrance Sunday, November 8th, and will be available on the town council website (www.colnetowncouncil.org.uk ) or via the council’s social media.

The town council is asking that people do not attend the town’s War Memorial.

Forces veteran, Coun. Neil Butterworth, commented: "It is a great shame that this year we are not able to come together at the Legion, parade through the town and participate in the service at the War Memorial.

"Colne’s Remembrance is an event which has grown and grown every year. However, thanks to the power of technology, we can still mark this important occasion in the year which has seen the 75th Anniversaries of both VE Day and VJ Day. We hope that the whole town will take the time to log on and commemorate with us.”
