Coaching award sums up Abi's success
Maths teacher Abi Bates has it all figured out after being named as Lancashire's Young Cricket Coach of the Year.
Abi, who teaches at Padiham’s Shuttleworth College, was presented with the honour from the Lancashire Cricket Board Coaching Association.
Abi won the award in recognition for the community and grassroots coaching she undertakes. Abi coaches the girls cricket teams at Shuttleworth College, with the Under 13s recently unbeaten in the local and regional heats of a cricket competition and are now through to the Lancashire finals.
She also coaches the juniors at Leyland CC, managing the under 13s team and she also coaches all age groups and assists with any other grassroots coaching for girls within the area when time allows.
She said: “I would say I commit between five to 10 hours a week coaching during the winter.
"I am honoured to have received this award.
“There are a lot of people within Lancashire who spend hours dedicating their time to coaching the next generation of players within the sport, so to have been recognised and acknowledged for my commitment made me feel proud.
“Coaching allows me to give something back to the game, and watching young players develop as well as having fun always makes it worthwhile.”
